Free Admission to Celebrate MLK Day 2013



The kids are out of school on Monday for Martin Luther King Junior Day. To celebrate his legacy, many area attractions are offering free admission.

White River State Park - Visit many of the park's attractions from 9am-4pm for free with the donation of one non-perishable food item per person, per attraction. The food drive benefits Gleaner's Food Bank. Here's a look at what you can do for free at WRSP.
·         Indianapolis Zoo
·         Indiana State Museum
·         IMAX Theater - "Born to Be Wild" and "To the Artic" - Free tickets until 5pm.
·         NCAA Hall of Champions - Former Butler basketball player Ronald Nored will lead story time from 11am-2pm.
·         Eiteljorg Museum
·         Victory Field - Get free health screenings.  Everyone who participates in screenings will receive two free tickets to the Indians opening Day on April 4.

Indianapolis Museum of Art - 11am-4pm - Kids can enjoy special art-making activities.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis - Enjoy free admission from 10am-3pm. The museum will host special performances.

Indiana History Center - The Center is hosting free performances by Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, storyteller Deborah Asante, Traci's Urban Dance Jamm Studio and more. The museum is open from 10am-5pm

Rhythm! Discovery Center - Have you been to the Rhythm! Discovery Center yet? If you child likes music, you need to check it out. The Center is offering free admission from 10am-5pm.

Conner Prairie Interactive History Park - Enjoy special activities from 10am-5pm.

Madame Walker Theatre Center - Watch a live stream of the inauguration ceremony inside the theatre as part of the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration that begins at 11am. Before the program, The Indianapolis Urban League will host a breakfast at 9:30am followed by a "Freedom Walk" to the Madame Walker Theatre Center at 10:30am.  

IPS Crispus Attucks Museum - The museum invites you to see the Civil Rights exhibit "The Man and the Movement" and the documentary "Legacy of King." You can also watch the inauguration of President Obama. The event is from 11am-4pm.

This event is not free, but it is a fun way to spend the afternoon - Harlem Globetrotters at Bankers Life Fieldhouse - 2pm - Tickets start at $25.
