Spring Bulb Show - Garfield Park Conservatory - Friday, March 21 - Celebrate spring at the Spring Bulb Show at Garfield Park Conservatory. See a display of tulips and other spring blooms. The Conservatory is open on Friday from 10 a.m-5 p.m. Admission is $3 or $8 per family.

Kids Story Time - Indy Reads Books - Saturday, March 22 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. - Take your kids to this weekly story time. Also, get a great deal on a book while you are there. Most of the donated children's books are just $1.

Face Painting Workshop for Kids - College Avenue Library - Saturday, March 22 1 p.m. - Kids ages 7 and up are invited to the College Avenue Library to learn the basics of face painting. Call 317-275-4320 to register.

Blarney Bash - Georgia Street - Saturday, March 15 noon-10 p.m. - Head downtown to Georgia Street for Blarney Bash. The event features live music from My Yellow Rickshaw and The Flying Toasters.

23rd Annual Shamrock Run and Walk - Saturday, March 15 10 a.m. - Start off the day with a run or walk. This four-mile course starts and finishes on Monument Circle. Afterward, enjoy ShamRockin' the Circle.

How I Became A Pirate - Pyramid Players - Beef and Boards - Saturday 1 p.m. - See the popular children's book by Melinda Long come alive on stage. The show is just one hour long and includes a snack and drink.

Cinderella - Peewinkle's Puppet Studio - Saturday, March 15 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.- Peewinkle's puppets present this classic fairytale,

Scooby-Doo Live! Musical Mysteries - Old National Centre - Saturday, March 15 1 p.m.- See the musical adventures of Scooby-Doo and those "meddling kids."

Ansel Adams - Eiteljorg Museum - Now-August 3- This is one of my favorite photographers. I have not been yet this time, but the last time the exhibit was in town, it was fantastic. This exhibit showcases photographs by the late Ansel Adams. Admission is $12; $10 for seniors, $6 for ages 5-17 and 4 and under are free.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Looking for something to as a family this Valentine's Weekend? Here's a look at what's going on around town.

PowerShares QQQ at Bankers Life Fieldhouse - Tonight, head to Bankers Life Fieldhouse to tennis greats John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl. The PowerShares QQQ Challenge begins at 7 p.m.  Tickets start at $25.

Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra - Heart and Soul: An Evening of Romance - Spend Valentine's Day with the Symphony. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at Hilbert Circle Theatre.

Indiana Ice Vs. Tri-City Storm - Enjoy hockey with your Valentine's. The Indiana Ice take on the Tri-City Storm February 14 and 15 at the Pan Am Pavilion downtown.

Indiana State Museum - Indiana Art Fair - Shop from more than 60 Indiana Artists during the Indiana Art Fair on February 14 and 15. A variety of mediums are available. Friday is preview night from 5:30-8 p,m. and tickets are $25 or $20/members. Saturday's admission is included with regular museum admission. The fair is Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

MLK Day FREE Events



Many kids will have to go to school on Martin Luther King Day to make up for snow days, including my daughter. But if you still have the day off, there are a lot of things you can do in Indy for FREE! Here's a look.

White River State Park - You will get one free admission per attraction for each canned good you bring for Gleaner's Food Bank. Attractions include Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Zoo, IMAX Theater, Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions and Victory Field.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis - Visit the museum between 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Enjoy free admission and celebrate the live, achievements and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. There will special activities and performances.

Rhythm! Discovery Center - 110 W. Washington St. - Enjoy free admission from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Indiana History Center - 450 W. Ohio St. - Enjoy free admission, hands-on activities, storytelling and more. the museum is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Conner Prairie - 13400 Allisonville Rd, Fishers - Free admission and special activities from
10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Harlem Globetrotters - Bankers Life Fieldhouse- This isn't free, but I wanted to include it. I loved watching the Globetrotters when I was a kid and still do. They will play at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $23-$114.

Best Bets for the Weekend

It's going to be a cold weekend. Here are a few inside activities to keep you warm.

Celebration Crossing - Indiana State Museum - Now-December 31 - Visit Santa Claus and ride the Santa Claus Express Train. I also love to see the Christmas window displays that used to be in the LS Ayers stores downtown when I was a child.


Ringling Bros. and  Barnum and Bailey Presents Built to Amaze - December 5-8 - Bankers Life Fieldhouse - Take your family to the circus. Tickets range from $11-$78.

Winterfest - Indiana State Museum - December 7 - Noon-4pm - Take your family to the Indiana State Museum to enjoy crafts and special activities. Have your picture taken in a scene from "The Christmas Story." Also, meet Indiana authors at the Indiana Author Fair.

Christmas at the Zoo - Indianapolis Zoo - Now-December 29 and December 29 and 30 - Wednesdays-Sundays 5-9 p.m. - Enjoy Christmas lights with the animals. The zoo is decorated for the holidays and Santa is there.  In addition to the lights, enjoy cookie decorating, a holiday dolphin show, carolers and much more.

A Beef and Boards Christmas - Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre - Now- December 23 -  This original, family-friendly Christmas tradition features an all-new set, new audio-visual effects, and Chef Odell Ward’s holiday buffet. The Children's Museum - Jolly Days - November 23-January 5 - It's time to take a ride down the Yule Slide! Jolly Days is back. Children can also enjoy the "Snow Castle" and "Ice Fishing Holes." Santa arrives on November 29.

Eiteljorg Museum  - Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure - November 23-January 19 - Follow model trains through a network of trestles, bridges and tunnels past Indianapolis landmarks and into the Great American West. This is has become a family tradition for my family and one of my favorites.
